Working on the Silverback Films series Wild Isles, showcasing the beauty and breadth of British wildlife, was a dream come true. One of the best shoots I did for the series focused on capturing the magical landscape and wildlife found on the Outer Hebridean Island of North Uist. The aim of the shoot was to portray the dune succession habitat there which is very evident as soon as you arrive. One of the states of the succession habitat is the Machair which is effectively dune grassland unique to the British Isles.

It boasts a huge diversity of flora and fauna, its classed as one of the most impressive displays of wildflowers in Europe and it’s a key breeding ground for a large number of birds too. It was this display in all its glory that we were there to capture.

Part of the shoot was also focused on capturing the diverse nature of wildlife this unique habitat supports through hide work using long lenses to isolate particular characters. Fellow camerman John Aitcheson was filming long lens for the duration of the shoot as well.
