We spent six weeks floating around in the Arctic Ocean, our aim was to come home with a new Walrus story for the Netflix series Our Planet II. Our field camp base was on the outer coast of Igloolik Island and each day we had to abide by what the weather conditions allowed us to do. As a result in the six week trip I think we only had around nine filming days, however 24hr sunlight allowed us to make the most of the fleeting opportunities.

We would drag the filming boats to the shore each day using a fleet of skidoos and we drive off into the Arctic ocean to find packs of floating ice which the Walrus would haul out on in between feeding sprees. Sometimes we found them sometimes we didn’t, the luck of the draw.

It was a very special and unique place which brought many challenges. We overcame them all and delivered a unique story for the series. Great times in the field with Emily Franke (AP), Joe Hope (AP) and Martin Gregus.
